If music is the universal language, then it makes sense that LifeLight would use this tool to reach people’s hearts as we proclaim Jesus’ name. The LifeLight Festival, held annually over Labor Day weekend in Worthing, South Dakota, is the largest and most well-known aspect of the ministry. Our regional Tours bring the music to the local community, purposing to stop in cities large & small to share the love of Christ and to host positive, safe events for area youth & families. And our missions trips use music, whether it’s an acoustic guitar or a full blown festival, to literally bridge the language barrier as we serve as the hands and feet of Jesus internationally. Our new addition, the Association of LifeLight Festivals allows us to share our passion & knowledge of music festivals with other festivals across the nation. Whatever we do at LifeLight, music is a huge part of it!
People go on missions trips and know their lives will change to some degree, but one missions trip turned one family’s life upside down! Because of that trip, the Greene’s followed the call to start a ‘missions outreach’ in the United States and the first event was held on a church lawn for one night in 1998. As others joined in the effort, the small event grew and grew in to the LifeLight Festival as we now know it, the mega event held on a 200 acre farm for three nights that attracts hundreds of thousands over the weekend.
Each year there is something that makes the festival special. But this year was extra special. This year I was able to bring a good friend along who has never been before. He has been experiencing hardships in every aspect of his life. From a career of 25 years ending, family issues, and health problems. He is a very faithful believer, but has been feeling that God has abandoned him. On Saturday night, I could tell that he was struggling emotionally. At that point I asked him to go for a walk with me. I led him to the prayer tent. We spent the next hour or so talking, praying, and crying with one of your prayer warriors. It was like we were the only three people there. God filled us with His Spirit. My friend has thanked me several times since that night. ~ Bill
From its very beginning, the heart of LifeLight has been to reach out with the truth and revelation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By definition, outreach means "to extend a hand for the purpose of assistance or revelation". We at LifeLight view our Tours as a community outreach where we come alongside existing ministries to assist with a positive event in order to reveal Jesus to those in attendance. We typically do this through Tours, but we also partner in one-day events, concerts, and various speaking engagements.
As a journalist, I covered the festival and the ministry with objectivity in mind…as someone who studies popular culture as a way to explain and define society, I was mesmerized by LifeLight. While most Christian music festivals tend to draw a throng of converts who already preach the message they’re singing along to, the LifeLight Festival always attracted people who didn't fit the Christian mold, which is exactly what they wanted in their mission to take the church beyond the church walls.
We have been blessed to partner with LifeLight for the past 6 years! The knowledge and experience about holding a successful and organized event that we have gained from their staff have been priceless. Their years of ministry experience helped guide us each step of the way to ensure our festival was well planned and very thorough. We are extremely honored to be a part of the Association of LifeLight festivals! ~ Mike & Tricia Spurling, Resound Festival—Bethany, Missouri
